Stressed... and quilting

I have about 4 days until the chaos of vacation starts.  The chaos that involves 3 flights to get us to the port of Barcelona all before we board a huge, big cruise ship & do 7 ports in 10 days with 2 children under the age of 5.  I know, you either hate me or are jealous of me...  I guess you might think I was crazy too. ;)

So, I sort of decided to get a couple items checked off my "to-do" list before heading for vacation.  What's a to-do list?  I'll put up another post about that soon...  But every year, I create a to-do list for myself with sight to the woman I want to be in 12 months.  This year, "Learn to Sew" and "Make blankets for my friend's twins" were on the list.

My husband, in support of my goal, had purchased a sewing machine for me for my birthday in January.  It sat, happily in its box through the snow storms of 2010 that hit the east coast, through the spring when the house was for sale, through the move until finally, my always amazing grandma came to make spaghetti sauce and I asked her to help e set it up.

So, I've been creating in a new way lately, thanks to this awesome blog My Spare Time.  I knew I was in the right place when I read the by-line... "What happens when you give an engineer her mother's old sewing machine."  Well, this is what happens when you turn an engineer in to a stay-at-home mom and give her a sewing machine!  (If you're my friend, who I doubt reads my blog with regularity because she's a crazy busy, wonderful mother to my god-daughter and her young twins, please stop reading... I'm posting pictures and gosh darn it, I want you to be surprised!)

Here's the fruits of my labor.  Next up is a matching set of decorated burp rags and a couple more baby quilts for what I hope might become my new shop at etsy.  But, we'll see!

Enjoy & would love to hear feedback on this!  The size is 34x34 finished and is using fabrics by LilMiss from Hancock Fabrics.  I'm calling it "Fields of Flowers"

This is the same size, finished with satin quilting and red flannel backing & I called "Puppy Paradise".  Fabric by Debbie Mumm.

  2. Great job! I've so wanted to learn how to quilt for a long time. Now, the only action my sewing machine sees is on my paper layouts :) so inspiring. Hope you have a fantastic trip!
