Road Trippin' & Other Adventures

We had the unfortunate news come just before the holiday weekend that my father in law passed away.  My husband is from Vermont which is where my in laws reside.  After our move, the drive has been extended to about 13 hours, give or take.  Knowing the way my husband handles strong emotion, I thought having a distraction would be a good idea on the long and stressful drive.  So, we started the license plate game along with keeping a record of interesting vanity plates that we saw on the drive.

The plates that we didn't manage to get crossed off the list are: Nevada, West Virginia, Wyoming
Plates of note: Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Washington DC

Vanity Plates:
4 U KIDDO
LUV A LAB
KDNY2
K9 SAR K9
FUN 4 SUE
SS BILL (on a Trailblazer SS)
NRAMOM
2 MASTFS
META4
BLESSYOU
POS1
NANAOF3
3KIWI
BLK IRISH
O SEE
RN SNOOP
00 7

We did some neat things even with the gravity of the trip itself including pick blueberries at a patch with 4 generations of the family on a patch that's been in the family for well over 6, visit Niagara Falls & I ran my first half marathon in 2 hours 30 minutes.  My preschooler also managed to break both bones in his forearm while playing at a mall playground.  It was an accident, but it was horrifying.  I praise God that we were very close to the #3 ranked Children's hospital in the US and they provided the best care for not only my son, but the rest of my family as well.  My toddler left with a new dolly and a new bunny both.  My son's sporting a bright orange cast and is thankfully back to his normal self already.  The bad part is keeping an active almost 4 year old from "rough housing" and away from water.  Again, I'm thankful that it was just broken bones- no apparent nerve damage, no neurological impact and he got such great care for the injury.  But we're ready for some boredom around our house this week!

  2. my son also broke his arm, well, his elbow while swinging on the monkey bars, he's 5. and keeping him from playing was like trying to heard elephants. We did a lot of board games and movies as well as coloring. Like yours, he's a very active boy.

  3. Awesome! I knew I'd read on a blog about the cast art, but I couldn't remember which one. I also heard from the orthopedic surgeon about drycast.com and am going to order a sleeve so he can at least play in the water some over the summer. So hard to watch them be so immobilized!
