Rarely do I make 2 different lunches, but today was one of those days. My toddler is the only one who will eat hummus, so I wanted to give it to her, but something else to my preschooler that he'd not turn up his nose at.
Preschooler lunch: Fiber One bar (half), Chicken Nuggets, Apples on "big" sticks
Toddler lunch: String Cheese, Pita Chips, Chicken Nuggets
Strawberries, Hummus, Corn Casserole
If you're stopping by and happen to be another MTM momma, I'm curious... if your child (toddlers especially) finishes one item and asks for more, do you give it? My toddler isn't quite 2 yet so she's not able to understand "eat one bite of x then you can have more y" yet. I use the logic with my older child which he'll almost always give in to as long as he wants y bad enough.

Amy - I think this whole muffin tin idea is very cool. I wish I had had that trick up my sleeve a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteYum!! Great tin!
ReplyDeleteThose lunches look great!
ReplyDeleteIn regards to your question...I do try to make sure other foods are eaten first before a second helping of something is given. But it depends on what is being asked for too. For instance, if my daughter is asking for more pretzels - I'm not likely to serve them if other foods weren't eaten too, but if she's forgoing raisins because she wants more broccoli, then I'm likely going to give her more broccoli!
My little girl has ALWAYS been a really good eater, so I don't have to fuss with her eating so much. But for my boys, and certainly my oldest son, I was in the habit of serving one food at a time for each meal...first serve peas, when he was done with peas I'd give him his chicken, when he was done with chicken I'd give him cheese, done with that I'd give him fruit. For him he'd fixate on just one food type if given too many choices on a plate at once. He was close to three years old when I could finally feed him "normally" with all his food on a plate at the same time.
Very nice! M is a picky eater and a skinny minnie. Typically if she asks for some more of something (or something else entirely) I give it to her. She needs the meat on her bones. Unless it's dessert (she wants an ice pop after every meal). In that case I tell her to eat 1, 2 or 3 more bites...depending on how much she's eaten already. As long as she's eating something that's all that really matters to me right now.
ReplyDeleteIf my kids ask for more of something, as long as it's a healthy choice, I let them have it!
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ everything Melissa said. :)
ReplyDeleteI give JDaniel more if he eat the thing he hasn't touched yet on his plate. He likes everthing is given, but sometimes finds one part of the meal he likes better than other things.
