Sweet and Sour Turkey Meatballs

This is a great recipe!  I am currently making a double batch so that I can freeze one set of meatballs after baking and then heat with the sauce for a quick meal after baby arrives.

Sweet & Sour Meatballs

Meatballs:
1.5 lb of ground turkey (or 0.75 lbs ground beef and 0.75 lbs ground turkey)
3/4 cup instant oats
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 T chopped onion (or about 1 T onion powder if you're me)
salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste
*flour for rolling meatballs in (about 1/4-1/3 c cup)

Sauce:
1/2 c brown sugar
3 t white vinegar
1 c water
2 T Worchestershire sauce
1/2 c ketchup
1/2 c BBQ sauce
1 T chopped onion (or dash of onion powder)

Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Spray a 9x13 baking dish with Pam.
  • Mix together all ingredients for the meatballs but leaving the flour out.
  • Form meat mixture in to meatballs.
  • Roll in flour and then place in pan.  Should make 1 full layer.
  • Bake for about 15 minutes or until browned.
  • In a small sauce pan, mix together all ingredients for the sauce.
  • Stir over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes- enough to heat through.
  • Pour over meatballs and bake for another 30 minutes.
  • Serve over brown rice.
Enjoy!
