Green Care for Troops
I found out about them through another military mom at story time and submitted my application. I met the man who runs a local lawn care service and works with Green Care and he's coming back out tonight to mow our yard. He's only able to take one family per season with the cost of gas being what it is currently, but I told him I'd be happy to give his name to anyone who asked me for a provider and to help spread the word about the program.
He's contacted the local newspaper and radio stations and both have declined promoting Green Care for Troops on their stations or in their paper.
That's really disappointing to hear, given the large military community we live in. And that so many families could benefit from these services! When you have young ones at home, it's really hard to take care of the yard. Really hard...
So, how can you help?
- Spread the word to military families and friends you know of.
- If you could provide services to a family, contact the coordinator and let them know you want to help.
- Looking for someone to mow your yards and able to pay them? Find one of these providers. Give them business as a thank you for what they do for families like mine.
- Donate any amount towards the organization itself so they can continue their good work.
Wishing you blessings~
I will spread the word on this Amy! Thanks for posting!
